As one of the biggest high school sporting events in the southern hemisphere, the Maadi Cup is a fantastic event to be part of. Its venue alternates year on year between Lake Karapiro (2015, 2017, etc.) and Lake Ruataniwha at Twizel (2014, 2016, etc.)
Getting our Maadi Cup crew, boats and gear to Twizel is a logistical feat, but well worth it – the scenery, atmosphere and excitement are second to none in high school sport.
Maadi selections are made after the North Island championships at Lake Karapiro in early March. The cost of competing in the Cup is additional to fees but we will provide parents with cost guidelines in plenty of time if their child looks likely to be a contender.
It is unusual for novices to be selected for Maadi in their first season, but not unheard of; in 2012 we took a group of talented novice boys down to Twizel in an under-15 eight and they came fifth in the final – a fantastic achievement.
