Historic medal haul for MAGSROW at Head of Harbour

MAGSROW’s senior squad enjoyed a historic day on the water last weekend at the 2021 Head of Harbour regatta on Lake Pupuke.

For the first time ever, the girls crew medalled in the Under Eighteen 8, taking home the silver medal behind Westlake Girls in first place and ahead of Epsom Girls Grammar in third place. The boys Under Eighteen 8 crew won gold for the first time since 1961, taking home the Pupuke Thousand Cup, ahead of Westlake Boys and Auckland Grammar.

Due to Covid disruptions, Head of Harbour was the first regatta of the season and doubles as the College Sport Auckland Championships. The MAGSROW squad took home 11 medals - including three gold medals - across the Boys and Girls U17 and U18 squads.

"It was fantastic to don the blue and gold again, and to see all our crews seizing the opportunity to race,” says Director of Rowing and MAGSROW Head Coach Alice Denyer. “We look forward to our younger rowers taking to the water this weekend for the U16 competition. This is a fantastic achievement from the senior squad, particularly given the disrupted season they have had.”

Overall medal tally:
Gold: BU18 8+, BU18 4+, BU18 2-
Silver: GU18 8+, BU18 2-, GU18 4+, GU17 4+
Bronze: GU18 2-, BU17 2x, GU17 2x, GU17 4x+
